People are at their best around the holidays. And, since Christmas is a season of giving, people are more willing to give and appreciate what they have. Billy, a man who requested anonymity, left a $5,600 tip and asked that it be shared among the restaurant’s 28 employees; it’s a whopping $200 Christmas gift for everyone as reported by SBLY Media.

It was a pleasant surprise, as many of the servers would receive important tips, but the kitchen crew normally did not. Some of the kitchen employees were in tears, according to Moussa Salloukh, owner and chef at Souk’s, since they’d be able to afford Christmas gifts for their children this year.

“There was a lot of tears, I’m tearing up now talking about it,” Salloukh shared. “Your restaurant staff becomes your family and everyone cares about each other. I’ve been staying out of the kitchen to give employees hours to get through and put gifts under the tree for their kids, so this was so huge for us.”

While the country’s elected men ignored workers, leaving them without financing and forcing people to stop or restrict their enterprises during stimulus discussions, civilians like Billy have stepped in.

Restaurants and their staff have been struck particularly hard due to being shut down and having a limited amount of room to do business, as well as a decrease in consumers who are afraid to dine out.

According to the National Restaurant Association, around 100,000 businesses have shuttered as a result of the pandemic. And around 60% of firms that shut down during the COVID time would never reopen.

For those who are grateful to have survived, the workforce normally flourishes over the Christmas season. This is due to the large number of customers that come in and leave big tips, which would enable servers and employees to purchase Christmas gifts for their families.

That wasn’t going to happen, though, due to COVID rules that limited clients. That’s why the workers and proprietors of Souk Mediterranean Kitchen were so moved by one of their patrons’ very kind gifts.

Salloukh expressed his gratitude on the restaurant’s Facebook page, which received over 1,300 likes.

“Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people,” Salloukh said in his post. “The words ‘Thank You’ seem inadequate for this gift but thank you, Billy, for your generous spirit and for making a difference in the lives of people I care a lot about this holiday season.”

The restaurant fans were overjoyed to learn about this wonderful gesture. All workers are indebted to the generous man who looked after them during such a trying period.

“Thank you for making the holidays possible for so many people who work so hard and have taken such a hit this year!” one fan commented.

“Billy is one generous person! In a world of so much darkness and negativity, its people like this that bring back the light,” said another.

“My son works there and he was on cloud nine when he came home! This means the world to the staff. Heroes do exist!”
