A courageous woman in Utah risked her own life to save a neighbor from a burning house.

Sarah Maughan is four and a half months pregnant, but she acted quickly after noticing a fire was escalating.

Sarah, who lives a few streets away from the man’s home, described how she noticed the flames from her window. She got in her car and went to the house, hoping to assist her neighbors.

Sarah yelled and knocked on the door, hoping to alert the man, who was plainly unaware of the raging scenario outside.

“I barely knocked on the door and the guy was asleep, I came over to make sure nobody was in and I banged on the guy’s door and he looked like a deer in headlights and his jaw dropped,” she told ABC4 in a boardcast aired on Nov. 28.

“He barely made it out,” she added.

Although it was not such a good idea for a pregnant woman, Sarah did not want any casualties, especially if it could have been avoided.

“I just reacted. Probably not the best idea, you know, being pregnant. But you know, I would hate to see the fire and know I didn’t do anything and somebody died,” Sarah stated.

She remembered: “I just felt the heat. Yeah, it was intense. Banged on the door. He came to the door. I said, ‘Your house is on fire.’ He saw the flames in the garage and his mouth just dropped. He was dead asleep. Surprised! (The fire) already to the doorway as we’re running (away).”

Many folks were already on their porches when Sarah approached the house. She did not even think about asking if anyone was still in the home at that moment, instead, she raced up to it.

Questioned why she placed herself in danger to help someone, Sarah stated she believes in karma and would want someone else to do the same for her family. Sarah’s rescued neighbor, on the other hand, was “was very grateful” for her efforts.

“We were just kind of hugging each other,” Sarah recounted, adding that she just wants people to start caring about each other.

If she had not hammered on that door, the neighbor would have died.

According to local fire officials, numerous structures were damaged as the result of the fire, luckily no one was badly harmed. Investigators suspect the fire originated in the garage, but they are still investigating to determine the specific source of the incident.
