Two nationally respected polls reported strong agreement between Republicans and Democrats on their intention to ban taxpayer funding of abortion, both in the United States and abroad, as well as support for restrictions on abortion practices.
The two polls that recently came to this same conclusion are; the annual Knights of Columbus/Marist Poll, released Wednesday, Jan. 27, and the Students for Life of America (SFLA) poll, both of which concluded that a majority of Americans support restrictions on abortion and oppose the government spending their tax dollars on abortions.
The results of both surveys were released just as President Joe Biden is about to implement the most radical abortion agenda in U.S. history.
The Mexico City Policy and the Hyde Amendment
The Democrats’ progressive agenda reportedly includes the immediate repeal of the Mexico City Policy, legislation expanded by former President Trump to prevent U.S. funding of foreign associations engaged in abortion practices. The agenda also includes repeal of the Hyde Amendment, a long-standing provision added to funding bills, which prohibits taxpayer money for abortions within the country.
Bipartisan agreement not to fund foreign abortion organizations
The Marist poll found that 77% of Americans “oppose” or “strongly oppose” the use of taxpayer funds to fund abortion organizations overseas.
Of Democrats who participated in the survey, 55% said they were against funding abortions overseas, while 95% of Republicans responded the same way and 85% of Independents.
Which leads us to think about a perhaps unexpected coincidence. While Republicans and Independents, because of their conservative profile, would be expected to be largely against abortion practices and their government funding abroad, it is striking that more than half of Democrats also think this way.
Only 19% of all Americans said they “support” or “strongly support” taxpayer funding of abortions outside the United States.
Supporting abortions in the US
Within the United States, 58% of respondents said they oppose taxpayer funding of abortion, including 31% of Democrats, 83% of Republicans and 65% of independents.
Consistent with what was reported in the Students for Life of America (SFLA) survey, millennials and Generation Z people (ages 18-34) were found to be more pro-life than reported in mainstream media. Fifty-three percent of respondents opposed funding abortions overseas. When the media is constantly trying to impose that this sector of the population is almost entirely pro-abortion.
Apparently the progressive agenda to which the Biden administration responds is not interested in what society it supposedly represents thinks, and is pushing for the new administration to unblock as soon as possible any legal obstacle that prevents it from carrying out its perverse plans.
“The American people show consensus and restraint on this issue, and we hope that our elected officials and policy makers will heed this call for unity when there is far too much that divides us in our politics today,” added Anderson.
