Marisa Fotieo, a Michigan teacher, claimed her throat began to hurt midway through a flight from Chicago to Iceland on December 20, 2021, and she went to the bathroom to do a quick Covid test, which proved that she had an infection.
She has since locked herself in the plane’s bathroom and isolated herself for 5 hours to protect other passengers.
“There were 150 people on the flight and my biggest fear was giving it to them,” she said.
She remained in the restroom for the rest of the journey, requesting food and drinks from flight attendant Ragnhildur “Rocky” Eirksdóttir.
“She made sure I had everything I needed for the next five hours from food to drinks and constantly checked on me assuring me I would be all right,” she added.
She captured her experience in a TikTok video, which has been viewed over 4 million times since it was first posted on December 21, with viewers interested in how she got on the flight.
In the platform’s comments area, Fotieo addressed the concerns, stating that she received two negative PCR tests before boarding. “I never made it to my destination,” she updated fans over TikTok. “Quarantined in Iceland now.”
Fotieo has already broadcast a series of movies from inside her hotel quarantine in Reykjavik in an apparent attempt to pass the time during her ten days of forced seclusion.
Fotieo told CNN that she had been completely vaccinated and was on her route to her final destination of Switzerland with her brother and father when she tested positive mid-flight.
