On Dec. 13, Chinese pro-democracy activist Wang Dan posted a post on Facebook, saying, “The political atmosphere in China these days is a bit unusual.”
Wang Dan said that, in the official report of the CCP’s Central Economic Work Conference, the names of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang appear in the title of the report. It is infrequent for the big two to appear together side by side.
When it comes to reform and opening up, the report mentioned Deng Xiaoping eight times and Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao but did not mention Xi Jinping. Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao are former General Secretary’s of the CCP, predecessors of Xi Jinping.
In addition, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Day on Dec. 13 is considered a national holiday for all of China. The official website of the Chinese Communist Party has been changed to black and white to show solemnity. However, Xi Jinping did not deliver a speech.
Wang Dan also said that Xi Jinping’s face might appear on the CCP’s official speech program even though its assessment of economic issues fundamentally contradicts the financial discussions of Xi Jinping.
Wang also said that experiencing the unusual political climate in recent times, the CCP will no longer pretend to weave beautiful illusions.
