On Dec.1, the International Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) presented by Steve Simon published an announcement:

“I announce the immediate suspension of all WTA-organized events in China, including Hong Kong.

With my conscience and morality, I cannot ignore what is happening with Peng Soai and let our athletes compete there. At the same time, I am very concerned about the risks to our athletes and staff at the events held in China in 2022.”

“I am pleased with the immense international support for the WTA’s position on this issue. People need to speak up now more than ever to protect Peng Soai and many other women worldwide. The WTA will do everything possible to protect its athletes. When we do this, I hope leaders worldwide will continue to express their opinions. Bring justice to Peng Shuai and all women, regardless of the economic consequences.” Simon went on to say.

WTA could not accept the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) handling of Peng Shuai’s case. The authorities have suppressed the investigation.

WTA requires the CCP to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the sexual assault of Peng Shuai by Zhang Gaoli and remove censorship of the topic.

WTA President Simon is searching for the whereabouts of Peng Shuai. He said that the most critical thing is Peng’s safety.

Simon admired Peng Shuai’s strength and courage. She dared to speak out publicly about the incident, especially when as it involved sexual assault and influential people. Although, she knew very well the danger that awaited her.

The Chinese leaders have dealt with this severe problem in a non-transparent manner. We know where Peng Shuai is now. But it is not known if she is free and safe as the information provided by the government keeps telling us.
