Snack packs disappoint kids

However, a viral video shared by parents on the internet shows the fraudulent production of one snack processing company in China for a profit.  

The boy opened the snack pack, only to discover a few chips. His mother told him to open another pack, but found the same, it was almost-empty too. The little boy was very disappointed because the snack pack had virtually nothing in it.

30 Chinese workers from Africa transferred malaria to Hong Kong

Besides the Covid epidemic, Hong Kong is now facing another disease spreading from Africa: malaria.

According to Hongkong media’ Sing Pao Daily News, Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) on Thursday, August 4, recorded a total of 30 imported malaria cases involving 30 male patients aged 25 to 57 arriving in Hong Kong from July 1 to August 1. Among that, 21 cases came from Guinea, Africa.

CHP added all cases were put in quarantine at the hospital. One case died, the remaining four cases were in serious condition, and 15 were in stable condition. Ten people have been discharged.

 On Friday, Ho Pak-leung of the University of Hong Kong said that the 30 cases were considered “a lot.” Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the city had an average of 20 to 30 cases per year.

According to RFI, authorities said that more than 200 people would return to China from Africa via Hong Kong within a month. This will be a risk of local transmission of malaria. 

Hong Kong government data shows that the infected female Anopheline mosquito transmits malaria. Symptoms of malaria include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The complications include anemia, organ failure, coma, and death if the disease is not treated promptly.

More than 8,000 people have been relocated after the collapse of the Panjin Dam in Liaoning

Two rounds of heavy rainfall on July 7 and July 28 hit Panjin City, Liaoning Province, causing flooding.

According to Xinhua News, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that the flood was the most severe ever recorded. On August 1, the dam of the Raoyang River in Panjin, Liaoning, was broken and washed out by water.

According to NetEase, more than 8,000 people have been displaced in Liaoning due to floods. More than 6,000 local residents had been safely relocated. More than 1,000 people are still accommodated in nearby schools and hotels.

The meteorological department of Liaoning Province said that from August 4 to 6, many parts of Liaoning Province have heavy rains, and the amount of water coming from upstream may increase.

 The National Disaster Reduction Commission and the Ministry of Emergency Management launched the National Four disaster relief emergency in response to severe floods in Panjin and other places in Liaoning Province.
