Giant-sized sweet potatoes grown in Shandong province

Shandong is famous for being a most outstanding agricultural production region in China. Recently, this place has become the most searched topic on Chinese social media because of the sheer size of vegetables and fruits.

According to SCMP, netizens became interested when a woman surnamed Huan shared a video of giant sweet potatoes, each weighing up to 10kg (22 pounds), bigger than a human head, being sold on a street in Jining, a city in Shandong, over the weekend.

Huan told Jiupai News, “We Shandong people often have relatively bigger produce. The spring onions here are taller, and everything is bigger. But I haven’t seen such big sweet potatoes.”

Gao Limin, a researcher at the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, told SCMP that agricultural products such as apples, radishes, and spring onions in Shandong province are much larger because of the species selection and climate. It is unclear whether any agricultural products are genetically modified or grown with fertilizers and chemicals.

On October 19, two giant pandas named “Sihai” and “Jingjing” were transported to Doha, the capital of Qatar, on a special cargo plane.

As reported by Chinese media, the agreement reached by the governments of China and Kazakhstan is that the two giant pandas will live in the Hall Zoo in Doha for 15 years. This is the first case of giant panda cooperation between China and the Middle East under panda diplomacy.

Panda diplomacy is a Chinese policy that promotes diplomatic relations by donating or lending giant pandas to countries around the world.

According to reports, the pair of giant pandas received two special care regimes at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport: inspection and release by specialized staff and escort by special aircraft.
