The earthquake in Lushan County, Sichuan Province, caused a blockage at the Huaneng Minzhi Power Station in Baoxing County. The natural disaster caused four deaths and 42 injuries and affected more than 14,000 people.

On June 3, authorities in Ya’an city, Sichuan, held a press conference to update the latest developments. According to the meeting, the earthquake caused a landslide at the Huaneng Minzhi Power Station in Baoxing County, Ya’an, and the river’s upstream water level rose dramatically due to congestion.

The earthquake affected nearly 14,000 individuals in Ya’an city, according to preliminary estimates. One hundred thirty-five homes were destroyed, and about 4,500 suffered general damage.

The Beijing Youth Daily outlet interviewed Xiao Yang, an earthquake witness returning home to take online classes due to the epidemic. Her location is about half an hour’s drive from Taiping Town, the earthquake’s epicenter.

She said she was palpably shocked by the incident and tried to stand but couldn’t because she was too shaken. The floor-to-ceiling windows shook continuously, so she dashed into the bathroom to get away from them.

Three minutes later, the earthquake hit again. Xiao said that the quake was more severe this time. She told the reporter that she could hear people running and screaming. It was a terrifying experience.

In the end, she went out to the open field to avoid the shock and falling debris.

Xiao said that Sichuan people are used to earthquakes, but they didn’t expect it to be so severe this time.
