As of April 19, the number of people infected with COVID in Shanghai has reached hundreds of thousands since a new outbreak began.

In the past two weeks, the number of confirmed cases in Shanghai has continued to soar high. From the data released by Shanghai officials, the percentage of asymptomatic infected people in Shanghai is over 90%.

By April 19, there were 2,494 new confirmed cases and 16,407 new cases of asymptomatic infection.

Shanghai has been fully closed since April 1. The 26-million-strong city has since entered a process of nucleic acid testing.

Despite the government’s measures, according to the AFP, on April 20, China announced 7 new deaths from COVID-19 in Shanghai city, bringing the total number of deaths in the current outbreak in this financial center to 17 cases, ranging from 60 to 101 years old.

The handling phase in preventing COVID-19 has angered Shanghai’s people.
In the face of the increasingly stressful situation, at a press conference on April 19, Shanghai Executive Vice Mayor, Wu Qing, apologized for the inconvenience of adjusting nucleic acid screening arrangements.

Since this epidemic began, Wu Qing said that many provinces, cities, and the military, including the three provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui in the Yangtze River Delta, have assisted Shanghai.

More than 26,000 medical personnel were sent to undertake medical treatment tasks in Fangcang shelter hospitals and more than 100,000 nucleic acid sampling and testing personnel.
