According to Bloomberg, many people in Shanghai recently posted on the internet that the moldy and expired food they received was from the government. During the food shortage because of COVID, this issue has caused people frustration, making them wonder if the Shanghai government was poisoning them.
On the Twitter-like Weibo platform, many residents complained that they got moldy braised duck and meatballs or expired packaging food. Meanwhile, SHINE reported that the quality problems are primarily from fresh food.
The authorities then immediately informed the citizens to stop using the food.
According to Tao Ailian, a Shanghai Market Regulator, the administration will find ways to punish and prevent such issues in the future as soon as possible.
She said, “The market regulator will investigate and punish this kind of violation strictly and fast.”
A woman in Shanghai said that she received supplies from the government on April 19, including milk, bread, eggs, and a piece of frozen meat. But the date of production of the frozen meat was April 20.
