Russian gas producer Gazprom said the amount of natural gas exports to China in January-April of 2022 increased by almost 60% compared to the same period the previous year.

The Power of Siberia gas pipeline began functioning in 2019. It transports Russian gas to China. According to a Gazprom statement, gas exports to China from the above-mentioned pipeline totaled 4.1 billion cubic meters in 2020.

According to the South China Morning Post, Gazprom said that under the signed contract in February, gas supplies from Russia to China via the Far East could reach 48 billion cubic meters per year.

Gazprom is also planning a new pipeline, the Soyuz Vostok. That new pipeline will travel from Russia to China via Mongolia. This would allow China to get an additional 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
