Vision Times recently reported that Xi Jinping would reduce the crimes of three members of Jiang Zemin’s faction in exchange for Xi’s staying in his current position after the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 20th Congress.

The three characters rumored to be relieved of their crimes are former Minister of Justice Fu Zhenghua, former Vice-Minister of Public Security Sun Lijun, and billionaire Xiao Jianhua.

However, Vision Times cited recent developments and news analysts assessing that the story would not play out according to the rumors mentioned above.

The CCP’s media outlets have recently published articles showing that Xi Jinping still intends to promote the anti-corruption campaign vigorously. In essence, it’s said that this campaign aims directly at the officials of Jiang’s faction, which has long been known for corruption.

Vision Times quoted an anonymous commentator saying Xi would never betray himself by acquitting corrupt officials. On the contrary, the anti-corruption campaign over the past two terms has helped him consolidate power.

This commentator added that if there is anything to reduce the punishment for Fu Zhenghua, Sun Lijun, and Xiao Jianhua, it is for them to make atonement for their sins. This means the three may have agreed to cooperate with Xi to attack Jiang’s faction, which is still very strong.

Lai Xiaomin, former chairman of the board of China Huarong Asset Management, was arrested in 2018 for corruption. Later it was reported that Lai would be given a lenient sentence. However, Lai was executed in 2021.

According to Vision Times, Fu Zhenghua, Sun Lijun, and Xiao Jianhua would likely suffer the same fate as Lai.
