China discovered a new variant of Omicron in Suzhou on Saturday, April 2. It is an entirely unprecedented branch and different from all currently known virus strains.

The Chinese media pointed out that the Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention said on Saturday that a confirmed case of the mild disease was found in Changshu City on the 28th of last month.

No highly-homologous sequences have been found in the global Wuhan pneumonia virus database, which means this is a new virus strain that has not yet been discovered.

The Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that epidemiological investigations and gene sequencing had been carried out on all infected cases to eliminate risks and cut off the chain of transmission. Still, it will take a certain amount of time to analyze and compare.
