Lin added that it is a good choice for some Chinese middle-class people wanting to leave the country as soon as possible.
Miss Zhao, 40 years old this year, works in finance in Shanghai. She told VOA that many of the terrible things she has heard during Shanghai’s lockdown time have made her consider about immigration. She stated that her immigration priorities would be those European countries with lower thresholds.
Chen Yuancheng, president of the Asia Family Office Association Taiwan, told VOA that China’s wealthy people have been looking for ways to move their money out of the country. Due to last year’s “common prosperity” policy, they now fear that their hard-earned savings would be distributed among the Communist Party. So they may want to relocate as far away from China as possible and transfer assets to family offices in other countries.
He estimates that roughly 4 million people in China have a net worth of 1 million US dollars or more. He said these people have always desired to leave China.
