Lei Dangchen, a former member of the Chinese Communist Party and deputy director of the Public Security Department of Shanxi Province, was investigated on Dec. 9, according to NTD News.

Lei has been in retirement for more than seven years.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said that Lei was being examined and investigated for severe party discipline and state law violations.

According to the report, Lei Dangchen, 67, is from Pingyao, Shanxi. He started working in June 1970 and held such positions as deputy director and director of the Beicheng Branch of the Public Security Department in Taiyuan; Party secretary and manager of Jiancaoping branch; Deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Public Security Changzhi; Director and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Public Security Department of Jinzhong City; Deputy Director of the Public Security Department of Shanxi Province. Lei retired in August 2014.

According to Minghui.com, while Lei Dangchen served as Party Secretary and Director of the Public Security Department of Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, he persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.

Before Lei was investigated, many high-ranking officials in the public security department of Shanxi Province were investigated and fired. Liu Xinyun, former deputy governor of Shanxi Province and the provincial Public Security Department director, was fired this year. Wang Wudao, a former second-level inspector of the Shanxi Provincial Public Security Bureau, has been investigated.

In addition, on July 10, Li Bo, a former Communist Party Committee member of the Shanxi Province Public Security Department and the captain of the National Security Corps, voluntarily surrendered and was investigated. Li Bo worked in the public security sector of Shanxi for a lengthy period. In June 2014, he was assigned to the Public Security Department of Shanxi Province as a member and captain of the Army Corps National Security (worked as deputy director). He retired in December 2018.

Statistics from China Economic Net on Dec. 2 show that Shanxi Province has the highest number of senior officials dismissed from their jobs after the 18th and 19th National Congresses of the CCP.
