Baizhao, former vice mayor of Chongqing Province’s Jiangjin District and former director of the district public security bureau, was investigated on Feb. 18 for allegedly committing serious disciplinary violations.
Baizhao, 55, has worked in Chongqing’s public security system for more than 30 years.
He has held several high-ranking positions in Chongqing before serving as vice mayor of Jiangjin District, director of the district’s Public Security Bureau, and inspector general of the District Public Security Bureau since September 2018.
Baizhao’s investigation comes as Chongqing has experienced several personnel adjustments at top levels leading up to the 20th National Congress.
Accordingly, Hu Henghua, deputy secretary of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, became deputy secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee from October 2021.
Shortly after, Tang Liangzhi, former mayor of Chongqing, was demoted and shifted to the party secretary of the Anhui Provincial Committee in December 2021.
Previously, Chongqing has witnessed several personnel changes.
Before the 18th Communist Party Congress, Chongqing’s former vice-mayor Wang Lijun’s scandal broke out, followed by the fall of Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai. Subsequently, the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Sun Zhengcai, was sacked on the eve of the 19th National Congress in 2017.
In 2019, Xue Feng, deputy secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee fell to his death during a meeting in Beijing.
From 2012 to this year, Wang Lijun, He Ting, and Deng Huilin have successively been sacked as Chongqing public security chiefs.
