According to the Chinese-language media Da Ji Yuan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ‘s Procuratorial Network has recently published the indictment of Lu Wende, 47, secretary of a branch in the Communist Party and former director of Chengteng County People’s Hospital in Wuzhou City, Guangxi Province.
Lu Wende was accused of illegally accepting a total of 40,362,000 yuan, approximately US$6.3 million in property from Xu, Li Moujia, and Wu Moujia in the course of purchasing medical equipment, medical consumables, test reagents, and pharmaceuticals and settling payments from 2013 to 2019.
Lu Wende accepted more than 140 bribes and used the bribe money to buy real estate in various places, all registered under his brothers and relatives’ names.
He was investigated on Jan. 19, 2021, detained on June 15 and sentenced to 14 years in prison on Dec. 28.
According to the State Supervision Commission’s website, Lu Wende did not voluntarily surrender within the prescribed period but planned to use millions of bribes to run away.
In 2021, three tertiary hospital directors in Teng County were investigated.
Apart from Lu Wende, Li Xinyuan, the former director of Tengxian Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, was sentenced to ten years and two months in prison on March 29.
Li Panliang, the former director of the Second People’s Hospital of Teng County, was tried for alleged bribery on April 12th, and the case has not yet been judged.
According to Guangxi’s official statistics, more than 4,000 cases have been investigated and punished in Guangxi’s medical and health system, involving about 2,500 cases in hospitals and rural health hospitals at all levels since 2016.
The investigated and punished officials generally made profits in procuring medical equipment, drugs, and consumables.
