Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leaders have no scruples about killing their citizens to preserve power, reported on December 2.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was commenting as he reflected on the recent death of former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin.

Gingrich, an Epoch Times contributor, said in an interview that since the CCP was founded in the 1920s, “every single leader of that Party has been a totalitarian dictator.”

He said, “None of them have been moderates. None of them have been nice, pleasant people in the sense that we think, and all of them have been prepared to kill people. That’s what it took to stay in power.”

Jiang began a campaign of repression against Falun Gong, a spiritual group that practices meditative exercises and moral teachings focusing on truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.

Perceiving the practice’s growing popularity as a threat to his rule, Jiang ordered an all-out suppression campaign in 1999.

The suppression subjected adherents to various cases of abuse, including torture, harsh labor, imprisonment, and forced organ harvesting.

Gingrich said, “Clearly, the dictatorship reached the conclusion that Falun Gong was a mortal threat because it represented an alternative center of legitimacy.”

He said, “The persecution of Falun Gong, and the intensity of it, is really stunning, and tells you all you need to know about how deeply totalitarian the system is.”

Another same kind of tragedy occurred in 1989

Following the death of reformist leader Hu Yaobang, a mass movement called for reforms and democracy in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989.

The Chinese regime ordered tanks and soldiers to move in to crush the protesters violently.

This bloody clampdown shocked the Western world.

Returning to Jiang, his recent death occurred as the regime faced widespread dissatisfaction from the Chinese public due to the regime’s draconian COVID policies.

The recent anti-lockdown protests in China have evoked more than a faint echo of that period.

Gingrich said, “These are the first demonstrations I can remember even including Tiananmen Square, where you actually have people calling for the replacement of the dictatorship.”

He added, “I think that is a significant shift.”

He also mentions the “Holodomor” famine in the Soviet and a three-year famine caused by the CCP’s Great Leap Forward economic campaign, which led to 30 million deaths.

He said, “These dictatorships have a deep capacity for dominating with just brute force terror.”

The former House Speaker added, “The degree to which everybody who’s currently protesting is at risk of having the dictatorship arrest them and disappearance is enormous.”

Gingrich believes, “There’s a lot to hold the Chinese communist dictatorship accountable for.”
