A Dutch court has just found two Russians and a Ukrainian separatist guilty of mass murder for their involvement in the 2014 crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine.

Three of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The sentences were handed down in absentia on Thursday, November 17. The fourth suspect was acquitted.

The next day, on Friday, November 18, the MH17 topic appeared on Baidu’s hot search list. It also topped Weibo’s hot search list. Baidu and Weibo are often said to be the Chinese version of Google and Twitter.

In 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, while en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed near the Russian border over Donetsk, Ukraine. All 298 people on board were killed. Two-thirds of them are Dutch.

Many Chinese netizens discussed the latest news on Weibo. They question other airline disasters like Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735.

The MH370 went missing mysteriously while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. There were almost 250 members on board, with more than 150 Chinese.

According to Reuters, after the incident, Chinese authorities held a hostile attitude towards family members who publicly pressed Beijing and Malaysia Airlines for information about the plane hunt. Police even detained and physically abused them.

China Eastern Airlines went down this March while on its way from Kunming to Guangzhou. No one among 132 people on board survived.

The video and flight radar from nearby villages show the plane crashing nose dive to the ground. No one knows what happened.
A preliminary U.S. assessment of the flight data suggests that someone in the cockpit pushed the Boeing 737-800 into a nearly vertical descent.
