According to Chinese media Global Times, on June 12, police in Tangshan, in northern Hebei province, said they had arrested nine people for a vicious attack on a group of women at a barbecue restaurant in China.

Xing Tao, deputy head of the Tangshan Public Security Bureau’s Lubei branch, said that preliminary investigations revealed that five individuals had criminal records for causing trouble, illegal detention of others, and intentional injury.

As Chinese media Caixin reported on June 11, Caixin then phoned the Guangmingli police station to see if Chen Jizhi and Liu Tao were the two main suspects in a case of women being beaten up in the barbecue restaurant. However, no response had been received as of press time.

According to the court judgment, on December 12, 2015, at about 6:00 p.m. in Wenxinyuan Community, Lubei District, Tangshan City, the defendant Liu Tao teamed up with others (identity unknown) to recover the debt for the mortgaged vehicle.

Liu Tao beat the victim, named Shang, with the steering wheel lock.

Shang then suffered a frontal bone fracture, a contusion of the brain tissue, and a comminuted ulna fracture.

Liu Tao and others transferred the victim Shang to the factory compound of Chen Jizhi in the east outer ring of Kaiping. Chen Jizhi is a fugitive.

Shang fled at 12 a.m. the next day and phoned the police.

The defendant Liu Tao then received two years and one month in prison after the first instance’s verdict. He was found guilty of intentional injury on December 20, 2018, at Lubei District Court in Tangshan City.

Recently, Video footage from a barbecue restaurant in the city of Tangshan in Hebei province on June 10 shows that a man is seen approaching a group of women who were dining there.

The man allegedly placed his hand on a woman’s back. She rejected and pushed him away.

The conflict between the men and the women broke out.

A group of men then entered the restaurant and viciously assaulted the woman and her companions.

Images of the woman lying on a stretcher with a swollen and bleeding face, as well as a video of the incident, went viral on the Internet.

The event prompted a heated discussion on sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

One commented, “All of this could happen to me, could happen to any of us.” This comment has received more than 100000 likes.

Another wrote, “Please give them criminal sentences, and don’t let any of them get away.”
