At about 10 a.m. local time on May 28, heavy flash floods and landslides ravaged Pengzhai Village, Jiangxi Province.
According to Jimu News, torrential rain hit the village in Guangxin District around 8 p.m. on May 27 and did not stop until 8 a.m. the following day.
The accumulated rainfall in the 12 hours was estimated to be more than 120 mm. The downpour in Pengzhai Village alone reached 155 mm. It was so heavy that rivers overflowed.
Ms. Qin is the homeowner who provided footage of the massive floods. She said she noticed the scene on the surveillance camera and checked. The water level had already reached up to her doors.
In another video, houses were flooded, and the relentless flashfloods also devoured the roads and bridges.
According to a map uploaded by the Jiangxi Provincial Meteorological Bureau on May 30, there was no sign that the testing weather was leveling off. The red areas demonstrate the strongest hit counties, including Shangrao, where Pengzhai Village is situated.
