According to Reuters, Covid-19 infections are falling in China. The average number of new confirmed infections daily in China has dropped by more than 2,300 over the last three weeks, making up 50% of its previous peak of nearly 4,000 on April 15.

The National Health Commission of China reported the daily data on May 15. Particularly, the previous day recorded 239 new cases of confirmed infections and 1,550 new asymptomatic cases.

Shanghai maintains its dominance with 166 new cases and 1,203 asymptomatic infections, followed by Beijing and Sichuan.

While Beijing recorded 33 new and 8 asymptomatic cases, Sichuan got 13 and 196, respectively.

Despite the downward trend in Covid-19 infections, nucleic acid testing is still being carried out in many places.

Beijing conducted nucleic acid screening on May 15 in 12 districts. Shanghai’s Huangpu District issued a notice in the morning on the same day that it will continue to conduct “nucleic acid plus antigen” combined with screening that day to achieve social clearance by the middle of this month. In addition to Beijing and Shanghai, Tianjin will begin nucleic acid testing after local infections occurred on the 12th, 13th, and 14th of May.

By May 14, more than 200 people in Linshui County, Sichuan, got infected in 5 days. The local authority has also implemented strict lockdown. Its neighboring region, Huaying city, has adopted the same measure.

As of May 14, 221,804 infections and 5,209 coronavirus-related deaths have been officially reported on the mainland since the pandemic began.
