The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Iryna Vereschuk, on Saturday, March 19, expressed dissatisfaction with China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian’s statement on a Facebook post.
Previously, Zhao criticized the U.S. for providing weapons to Ukraine, fearing that helping Ukraine with weapons could lead to more casualties among civilians.
Iryna Vereschuk used social media to criticize Zhao Lijian for his remarks, saying, “This is absolutely not serious and not worthy of the status of a great respectable country!”
At the regular press conference on March 18, 2022, Zhao Lijian said, “What China provides to Ukraine are much-needed humanitarian supplies such as food, baby formula, sleeping bags, quilts and damp-proof mats. In contrast, what the U.S. provides to Ukraine are lethal weapons.”
In this regard, Iryna Vereschuk said that Ukrainians didn’t need blankets and bedding. As Russia is bombing residential areas in the cities, she stated, “We need weapons to defend our land.”
She ended with a clear message, “We call on China to stop supporting those who bomb residential areas of the Ukrainian cities!”
According to a statement from the White House, President Joe Biden, on March 16, announced an additional $800 million in security and military assistance to Ukraine, bringing the total U.S. security assistance committed to Ukraine to $1 billion just in that week.
