According to Chinese media Xiwang Zhisheng, a protest broke out in communities in Daqing, Heilongjiang City, on September 3rd.
Videos posted on the internet show the incident took place in the Aolong Community of Longfeng District in the central urban area of Daqing.
Reports are that authorities put the community under lockdown for a long time. As a result, they suffered from food shortages. On September 3rd, many residents there started to protest, demanding food.
The protest lasted all day and into the night. Many police were dispatched to disperse the protesters. The conflict then broke out.
Late at night, residents went home and opened their windows to shout from their buildings.
According to local netizens, on September 3rd, some locals went out to beg for food and were detained by the police. Others witnessed this scene, so they rushed to help. Later, a large number of residents went downstairs to protest.
The main urban area of Daqing has been closed for the past two weeks.
According to Red Star News, the main urban areas of Daqing City (High-tech Zone, Sartu District, Longfeng District, and Ranghulu District) will continue to be temporarily controlled starting from 9:00 p.m. on September 4th. The control is expected to last for five days.
