Czech’s Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said in an interview with POLITICO on April 13 that the EU “understands that Taiwan is bullied by China.” He called for democracies to offer as much help as possible to Taiwan and recognize the nation as a democracy.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that, besides Beijing’s dubious relationship with Moscow, the view on Taiwan’s sovereignty made the Czech Republic stand the opposite of China.

He mentioned that Taiwan was a major investor in the Czech Republic, and the island had created many job opportunities there. The Czech Republic plans to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations with the island.

He said, “We understand that Taiwan is bullied by China.” He added, “Part of [our government’s vision] is that democracies in the world should hold together — and Taiwan is a democracy.”
