Recently, relatives of Foxconn employees in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China, posted information on the internet saying that a large-scale COVID-19 outbreak had occurred at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, with about 20,000 confirmed cases. However, authorities did not announce the situation and did not provide support.

On October 24, employees working on the assembly line of the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou issued an open letter. (0:19) It said they had been asked to stay in the dormitory last night and were not allowed to go out. After they stayed in the dormitory for 12 hours, no one came to take samples for PCR testing, neither brought food nor showed up to solve the problem.

Some Chinese netizens posted that about 20,000 employees of the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou had been diagnosed with the COVID virus. Still, there was no medical staff to take people to quarantine at night. Others reported that it had been three or four days since they and the quarantine staff received food.

Zhou, an employee who returned from quarantine, told NTDTV that he had nothing to eat and was very hungry during the quarantine.

The restaurant at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou is closed, and employees are given only one meal box for dinner all day. The factory distributes three meals to those under quarantine. But currently, there are 200,000 workers, but not enough meal boxes to distribute, and workers who can’t get a box go hungry.

Twitter account Songpinganq posted a video showing the chaos and said: “Massacre: Hungry Foxconn Chinese workers are scrambling for food. Some of them have not eaten for days and rumors say that “some people starved to death” while quarantined. Zhengzhou city October 25, 2022.”

Li, a Foxconn employee in Zhengzhou, told NTDTV: “I don’t have food, I reported it to authorities, and they said they don’t care.”

A video (1:18) posted on October 25 shows that on October 22, Foxconn factory employees clashed with pandemic prevention staff because they prevented the employees from going out to eat. Videos of the two sides’ conflict have been circulating online.

Recently, a female employee who worked for 10 years at Foxconn in Zhengzhou was quarantined in a dormitory and had a high fever but was not treated by anyone, even though she sent a video asking for help. NTDTV quoted the female employee as saying: “I am an employee of Foxconn. I am currently in Yukang Bei. I have a fever of 39℃ at the quarantine point, and no one cares about me.”
