Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua on April 2 called for further measures to stabilize foreign trade despite a complex external environment.
According to the Xinhua news agency, Hu made the remarks when he presided over a conference on foreign trade in Beijing.
Reuters reported that several top officials have warned of uncertainties in international commerce in recent months, which helped drive the Chinese economy in 2021. Global demand and rising raw material costs can also challenge the world’s second-largest economy.
At the conference, Hu emphasized that the more complicated the situation is, the more China is required to make in-advance plans and respond actively.
The recent resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic nationwide has heightened concerns about economic disruption and prompted some global investment banks to lower their economic growth forecasts for China.
The Vice Premier said relevant departments should closely track the situation and conduct accurate analysis and research.
Besides, Hu said that China needs to fully listen to experts, scholars, and enterprises, as well as promote the implementation of the government’s policies, helping to address problems among enterprises.
He hoped that research institutions, experts, and scholars would strengthen the analysis and research of major issues and risks regarding foreign trade.
The official said that foreign trade companies are at the front line of the market; therefore, they must actively respond to new situations and problems in operations.
