Xinhua Net, a media outlet of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), reported on Dec. 10 that there would be no Hollywood blockbusters during this coming Lunar New Year.

A post on Dec. 8 by Zangyn, a popular Weibo user, says, “Due to the U.S. boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the CCP canceled American films screening. Spider-Man 3 was initially scheduled for Dec. 15 but has now been canceled.”

On Dec. 9, People’s Daily reported that the top five films in China’s box office charts are domestic films, including patriotic-themed “Changbin Lake” and “Wolf Warrior 2.” Social media users have reported that American films were banned.

In addition, the screening of other foreign movies decreased so that domestic films could climb to the top.

On Dec. 12, in an interview with Epoch Times, overseas news commentator Lu Tianming said that when the CCP is condemned on any matter, they often retaliate against other countries by attacking unrelated fields.

The CCP deliberately uses the Lunar New Year to retaliate against the United States because this is the time when blockbuster films sales are very high. However, the cultural sector is related to people’s livelihood and recreational activities. However, the CCP doesn’t care about these things; there are no limits if it achieves its goals.

On the other hand, the CCP is now increasingly afraid of problems related to its communist ideology. They worry that the Chinese people will not listen to its propaganda.

The CCP has been suppressing even foreign language teaching by NGOs and tending towards shutting down the country. They fear that American values will be propagated through education or cultural products, including pursuing freedom, human rights, and democracy in Western democracies. So Hollywood blockbusters entering China will impact people’s minds, which will make the CCP’s rule unstable.

China news commentator Wang Zheng told RFA that countries boycotting diplomacy would not harm people. China’s countermeasure to defeat the U.S. is not concerned about causing hardship for its 1.4 billion people. For example, the CCP boycotted American TV series, the NBA, and American sports brands.

On Dec. 6, the White House announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, said the boycott is due to the genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights abuses by the CCP.

The diplomatic boycott means that governments will not send high-ranking officials to the event, but American athletes will still participate in the Olympics.
