On March 28, according to Reuters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Western countries led by the United States are now isolating Russia because of the Ukraine conflict. Still, China-Russia relations are at their strongest level ever.
Beijing government has repeatedly opposed international sanctions against Russia and insisted on maintaining regular economic and trade exchanges with Russia. Moreover, it has refused to condemn Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
Regarding China’s position in the Russia-Ukraine war, China has always “followed an independent policy of peace,” according to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. In addition, China also denied providing military assistance to Russia.
In an interview with Serbian media, Sergei Lavrov added that any direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky would be “counterproductive”, unless both nations’ issues are resolved.
