China has recently disclosed two novel omicron sub-variants that do not match any existing sequences.
According to Bloomberg, over the weekend, Dalian city detected another infection with an omicron sub-variant derived from BA.2.
According to Chinese media Sohu, on April 1, Chinese authorities found that the virus gene sequence of a new positive infected person in Jinpu New Area, Dalian City, is not the same as any existing gene sequences found domestically. This case was found in a fashion store clerk.
In addition, another case in Suzhou, just west of Shanghai, was found in a patient with a mild case of Covid on March 28. This newly-discovered subtype was caused by an omicron subvariant derived from BA.1.1, which was not found in any local or international databases for viral sequences known as GISAID.
