Beijing said on Monday, April 25 that the mass-testing spree for COVID-19 will cover 10 more districts and an economic zone by Saturday.
As Reuters reported, the capital city has already begun screening its most populous district Chaoyang for the virus on Monday. In total, Beijing has 16 districts.
The city reported 33 new locally transmitted cases on Monday, with only one patient experiencing no symptoms. 19 community infections were reported the day before.
There has been no lockdown, but several services and public avenues have been shut down as of Tuesday. That includes some gyms, theaters and tourist sites.
The city sounded warnings of hidden transmission last weekend after cases emerged in multiple areas. This came after the detection of 20 COVID-positive cases between April 22 and April 23.
