China is standing firm on its Zero-Covid policy while the rest of the world learns to live with the coronavirus. Following Shanghai, Chengdu and Guiyang are among the cities under strict lockdown to control the Covid pandemic.

On the evening of September 4th, the Guiyang City Epidemic Prevention Command ordered that from 00:00 on September 5th, “temporary static management” will be implemented in some areas of the city. It is tentatively scheduled for 4 days. During that period, all residents at home are not allowed to go out except for nucleic acid sampling at designated testing sites.

So far, many areas have not been able to return to normal. And stories of desperation are emerging in Guiyang, there is even a report of elderly people living alone committing suicide as almost all areas in the city enter its days of lockdown. Besides, there were increasingly widespread reports of residents being unable to access food, medicine, and other essentials.

Some need help, posts said that the authorities boasted that “there is no need to worry about basic living materials.” Therefore, many residents of Huaguoyuan didn’t hoard supplies in advance. Now the food couldn’t be snapped up on the official shopping platform, and the authorities didn’t deliver supplies. The residents began to struggle with life and death due to food shortages.

Some netizens left a message advising starving residents to take action to save themselves. They shared how to climb over the wall at night when the anti-epidemic staff rested to take to the street to buy goods.
